YouTube is raising the prices for its Premium subscriptions. In some cases, the cost will increase by a third. This affects not only the basic version for individuals but also subscriptions for families and students, as well as Premium Lite.
"YouTube without limits. No ad interruptions," promises the video platform to its Premium subscribers. However, interested users will now have to dig deeper into their pockets.
After the parent company Google initially raised prices for various Premium models in the USA in April 2026, Germany is now next in line, as can be seen on the corresponding website.
Individual Subscription Now Costs 14.99 Euros
The individual subscription now costs 14.99 Euros per month. Previously, it was 12.99 Euros, meaning YouTube has increased the price by 15 percent. Those who do not want to pay monthly can book the basic subscription for a full year at once. For this, one must transfer 149.99 Euros. Compared to monthly payments, this saves 15 percent.
Family subscriptions, which can be used by up to six people in a household, are also seeing a similar price increase. Instead of the previous 23.99 Euros, the subscription now costs 23.99 Euros.
Students will also have to pay more in the future. The discounted subscription now costs 8.99 Euros per month instead of 7.49 Euros. Unlike the individual subscription, there is no option for families and students to pay for a year in advance.
Premium Lite Also Becomes More Expensive
The largest price jump is seen in the cheapest subscription, YouTube Premium Lite. It now costs 7.99 Euros per month instead of 5.99 Euros, marking a one-third increase.
In the Lite version of YouTube Premium, not all videos are ad-free, but most are. Unlike the classic Premium offering, users cannot download all videos or play them in the background.
Are Existing Customers Affected?
The price increase apparently applies not only to potential new customers. According to media reports, existing customers have received an email informing them of the adjustments. According to the terms of use, users have 30 days to respond to the increase.
