Anniversary Photoshoots: Celebrating Milestones with Meaningful Imagery

Celebrating 10, 15, or 25 years together—whether married or in a committed partnership—marks a significant milestone. An anniversary photoshoot serves as a snapshot of who you are as a couple today, distinct from your wedding day and different from who you may become in the future. This type of shoot is particularly special because many couples often stop consciously capturing moments together after their wedding, making an anniversary session a valuable opportunity to document your current relationship.

For many couples, there can be a gap of 10 to 20 years between wedding albums and the phase of relying on casual smartphone snapshots. An anniversary photoshoot fills this void, showcasing who you are together now, rather than who you were back then.

Three Options for Your Anniversary Photoshoot

Outdoor at a Meaningful Location

One of the most popular suggestions is to have an outdoor shoot at a location that holds special significance for you both. This could be the café where you got engaged, the lake you visited during your first summer together, or the mountain peak where you celebrated your first anniversary. The key is to choose a place that resonates with your shared history, rather than one associated with your wedding.

During the pre-shoot consultation, we will discuss the location. If your chosen spot is too far away (like Italy or Northern Germany), we can find a nearby alternative. Should your location be impractical due to closure, poor lighting, or crowds, we will explore options that evoke a similar atmosphere. Each session lasts 2 to 3 hours, starting from €250.

Lifestyle at Home

If you prefer a more intimate setting, consider a lifestyle shoot at your home. This could include a cozy breakfast setup, sharing coffee, or a stroll through your neighborhood, perhaps even stepping into your garden. These images will reflect your everyday life together—less staged and more observational. This approach works particularly well for couples whose shared experiences are rooted at home rather than in outdoor adventures. Sessions also last 2 to 3 hours, starting from €250.

Combination with Boudoir Elements

For a more intimate experience, we can divide the day into two segments: first, a lifestyle or outdoor shoot (1.5 to 2 hours), followed by a return home for a boudoir portion (1.5 to 2 hours). This format is especially suited for couples celebrating their 15th, 20th, or 25th anniversaries, where both styles reflect the depth of their relationship. This option starts at €550. More details can be found in the specific section on couple boudoir shoots.

What an Anniversary Photoshoot Is Not

  • Not a Repetition of Wedding Photos. You are not the same couple you were on your wedding day, so we won't recreate those images. No second wedding dress, no repeat of bridal portraits, and no mimicking your 1999 wedding photographer's style.
  • Not an Engagement Session. Engagement shoots capture the excitement of being in love, while anniversary sessions reveal familiarity. These are two distinct visual narratives, with familiarity being the more genuine of the two.
  • Not a Family Shoot with Kids. If you want family portraits, that requires a different setup. Anniversary shoots are specifically for the two of you. Your children can have their own family portrait session if that is your goal.
  • Not a “Celebrating Eternal Love” Staging. I do not create images featuring heart-shaped confetti, date signs, or artistically arranged candle displays. If that is your vision, I may not be the right photographer for you.

Recommended Locations Around Olching for Anniversary Photoshoots

  • Olchinger See, Westufer — A serene lakeside stroll, perfect for relaxed lifestyle couple photos. Best light: late afternoon.
  • Amperwiesen bei Geiselbullach — Outdoor lifestyle with soft lighting through grasses. Suitable year-round, except in mid-winter.
  • Mammendorfer See — An alternative natural setting, less frequented. Ideal for couples seeking discretion.
  • Ammersee or Starnberger See — For those willing to travel further for a larger body of water. Often the choice for 25+ anniversaries, signaling a “let’s do this right” attitude.
  • Munich Old Town — If your story unfolds in the city, this is a great option for couples who have lived or worked in the area and want to anchor their memories in an urban setting.
  • At Home — The standard for lifestyle formats. I will bring mobile equipment to your location.

If your desired location is outside the usual radius (like Tegernsee, Chiemsee, or Brombachsee), we will discuss travel arrangements during the pre-consultation. More about the region can be found in the photographer's Olching and surrounding areas section.

Outfit Recommendations for Your Anniversary Photoshoot

  • Colors from a Palette. Earth tones, cream, camel, dark blue, and soft black. Both partners should wear complementary colors—harmonious but not identical.
  • Classics Over Trend Pieces. Think knit sweaters, classic coats, subtle dresses, and shirts. What you would wear in five years will also look good in your photos years later.
  • Showcase Wedding Rings. If you are married, I love to capture 3-5 detail shots of your hands with rings, as these often become the most cherished images.
  • Avoid Formal Attire Unless Desired. Some couples choose to dress up for their anniversary shoot—suits and cocktail dresses work, but they convey a different character (more akin to Edwardian portraits). The standard is casual-smart.

Timing: When to Book Your Shoot

  • 2 to 3 Months Before Your Desired Date. This timeframe allows for pre-consultation, location selection, outfit advice, and scheduling. For summer outdoor shoots, consider booking 4 months in advance, as popular dates fill up quickly.
  • Avoid Scheduling on the Anniversary Day. The day itself should belong to you—dinner, travel, or whatever you have planned. It’s often more beneficial to schedule the shoot 2-4 weeks beforehand. This way, you’ll have your first images ready to share on your anniversary, and the shoot won’t carry the pressure of being the “perfect day.”
  • Season Based on Image Style. May to October is ideal for outdoor lifestyle shoots, while November to March is better suited for indoor or home setups. Anniversary shoots at summer “memory locations” are the most common format.

Cost of an Anniversary Photoshoot

  • Lifestyle Base (2 hours, one location or at home): starting from €250.
  • Extended (3 hours, two locations, more image variations): starting from €400.
  • Combination with Boudoir Elements (half-day, outdoor + boudoir at home): starting from €550.
  • Premium with Album Printing and Fine-Art Prints for Wall Display: starting from €750. Albums and prints are priced separately (printing and binding €100-200 depending on size, wall prints €80-250 based on format).

All prices include: pre-consultation (free for both partners), image selection consultation after the shoot, honest documentary editing, and digital delivery in high resolution. Prints and albums are additional. For inquiries, contact the portrait photography service in Olching.

In Conclusion

After anniversary photoshoots, I often hear the same sentiment: “This was the first time in 15 years that we consciously posed together for pictures.” This is precisely why these sessions feel so different from standard couple shoots. The images are rarely dramatic; they are calm, familiar, and sometimes almost unremarkable. Yet they authentically represent the couple you are today, and in ten years, you will appreciate this unpretentious honesty. If your anniversary is approaching, feel free to reach out 2 to 3 months in advance.
