Recent insights reveal that generative AI tools are increasingly being leveraged by terrorist organizations on the battlefield, despite ongoing efforts by developers to curb misuse. This alarming trend is highlighted in a report by Antonia Jülich from the Cambridge Programme on AI Science & Policy (CASP) at the University of Cambridge.
Jülich's research involved interviews with 27 former members of Boko Haram in Nigeria. The findings indicate that these terrorists are using chatbots for various purposes, including constructing explosives, repairing or upgrading weapons, and devising improved strategies and tactics.

Antonia Jülich: Boko Haram is a broad term that encompasses two distinct factions. One of these factions aligns with the so-called Islamic State (IS). Like many IS supporters, this group is not averse to technology. Contrary to popular belief, they are also early adopters of new technologies.
