Women often reach out to me at various milestones in their lives, from those in their mid-20s celebrating their first job to mothers in their early 40s seeking portraits that truly reflect who they are, rather than standard family vacation photos. While both groups find themselves in front of the same camera, the resulting images are vastly different.

This article addresses a common question I receive from women: “What type of photoshoot is right for me at this stage of my life?” The answer depends on two key factors: the life phase you are currently in (from 18 to mid-50s) and the occasion prompting the shoot. Often, these factors are not as straightforward as they may seem.

My photography primarily focuses on women in Olching, Fürstenfeldbruck, Munich-West, and surrounding areas. Over the years, I’ve learned that the same outdoor lighting that illuminates a 28-year-old beautifully can make a 45-year-old appear harsh. Similarly, poses that work for women in their mid-30s may look forced on someone aged 22. The goal is not merely to capture flattering images but to authentically represent you in the phase and context you are in now.

Young Women (18 to Mid-20s) — What Works and What I Evaluate

Legally, at 18, you are an adult and can book your own shoots without parental consent. However, the emotional maturity often lags behind this legal status. For this reason, I approach inquiries from this age group with particular care — not dismissively, but attentively.

The most common request during this phase is for lifestyle portraits, usually the first conscious image taken after the typical drugstore headshot. These sessions generally go smoothly, often conducted outdoors at locations like the Amper River or Olchinger See, with two outfit changes over 1.5 to 2 hours.

Requests for more sensual genres (Boudoir, Lingerie, etc.) are less frequent but not unheard of. In such cases, I conduct a detailed pre-discussion to determine whether this is the right step. Sometimes we decide to start with a lifestyle or portrait shoot and postpone the more sensual themes. Other times, it’s clear that the inquiry is well thought out and the shoot makes sense. Both paths are valid.

Practical: Basic portrait package starts at €150 (1–2 hours, 10 images). More sensual genres are available in tailored packages after the pre-discussion. For further reading: Photoshoot for young women from 18 to mid-20s.

30s — Balancing Career, Professional Portraits, and Self-Discovery

The 30s are often a time filled with overlapping themes. Women in this age range frequently seek professional portraits for career advancement (LinkedIn, speaker photos, personal branding), explore boudoir photography as relationships deepen, or plan weddings and pregnancies. Many women in their 30s desire to combine multiple photo ideas in a single shoot.

What works well here are split sessions. The morning can be dedicated to professional and edgy shots for career and branding, while the afternoon can shift to more personal and sensual images — lifestyle, boudoir-light, or lifestyle lingerie. A 3-hour session is ideal, with options starting from €250 for expanded shoots or €400 for premium packages.

Local locations that work particularly well for women in their 30s include the brick walls at Olchinger Bahnhof for morning career setups, and at home or Olchinger See for the personal half of the shoot. Shooting at home often provides a more authentic setting, capturing you in your own environment.

Pregnancy & Baby Bump

The baby bump phase has a specific time frame: weeks 28 to 34 of pregnancy (24 to 30 weeks for twins). Before this period, the belly may be too small, and afterward, many women find it challenging to pose comfortably.

What many underestimate is that a baby bump shoot doesn't have to follow the cliché of “hands on the belly, gentle smile, sunset.” I prefer to create images where you remain recognizable as a woman — with a belly but not solely defined by it. Some women also opt for maternity boudoir, focusing more directly on the belly with less fabric.

Outdoor sessions at the Amper meadows work well from spring to autumn. In winter, we typically shoot indoors or in rented studios. If you wish to include partners or siblings, that’s perfectly fine, but we always ensure to capture solo images of you with the belly, which often turn out to be the most emotional.

Post-Birth — Boudoir with Changed Body Language

This life phase is often overlooked, yet it holds significant importance for many women. The body after pregnancy changes — softer bellies, fuller breasts, and skin that may carry stretch marks. Some women find this beautiful, while others take time to embrace their new form. A boudoir shoot during this stage can either celebrate or help reconcile with the new body.

I recommend scheduling this type of shoot at least six months post-birth, but no later than 18 months after. Before six months, the focus is often still on caregiving routines. After this period, the body typically undergoes further changes. Sessions usually take place at home, accommodating breastfeeding breaks and including time for rest. If your baby is present, we can capture a few images together, but the emphasis remains on you as a woman, not just as a mother.

40+ — When the Body Tells New Stories

For many women, turning 40 brings more than just visible aging. Changes in energy levels and self-perception often come into play, sometimes leading to a more critical or calmer view of oneself. Women in this age group typically seek images that reflect who they are today — confident, without the need for filters or heavy editing.

Practically, photoshoots for those 40+ work well with softer lighting (morning hours instead of midday), favoring black and white over bright colors (even in outdoor settings), and opting for more subdued poses. Earth-toned outfits, flowing fabrics, and subtle jewelry contribute to a more elegant look. In this phase, less often appears more refined than overly playful.

Nude photography can be beautiful at any age — the body at 25 tells a different story than at 45, and both are visually compelling. What often shifts after 40 is decisiveness: many women now have a clearer understanding of what they wish to reveal and what they do not. Black and white nude photography can convey a sense of calm. This is not a new concept — see the works of Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh, and others for inspiration. More about my approach to nude photography: Nude photography in Olching.

Sensual Photography for Experienced Women

The most frequent inquiries for boudoir, lingerie, and sensual photography come from women between their mid-30s and mid-50s. This is no coincidence; it’s a phase where many women truly understand what they want and are less likely to need guidance on what it means to be “sexy.”

Women with experience often arrive with clear ideas about the mood they want to create, what to show, and what to keep private. Sometimes, they bring specific references from magazines or art books. I appreciate this, as it transforms the shoot from a generic “how to do boudoir” session into a translation of their vision into light and pose. This process is often quicker, clearer, and yields more character in the final images.

What these women often excel at compared to younger counterparts is their ability to be still in front of the camera. They don’t need to perform; their sensuality comes from a place of calm rather than posed effort. This creates a different, more captivating photographic experience.

Fashion & Lifestyle Shooting for Stylish Women

Not every women’s photoshoot fits neatly into a genre. Some women arrive with a distinct style — a unique aesthetic, wardrobe, and vision — and seek someone to translate that world into photographs. This is not about “posing coaching” or “finding your best angle”; it’s editorial women’s photography on an equal footing.

Commonly, these shoots involve 3 to 4 outfits over 3 to 4 hours, often with location changes. Urban looks can be captured against the brick walls of Olching, while softer images might be taken at the Amper meadows, or in a rented studio in Munich-West for a clean editorial feel. The resulting images often serve multiple purposes: for personal websites, LinkedIn profiles, personal branding, or perhaps even print projects.

Trash the Dress / New Beginnings after a Breakup

One of the most intense formats I offer, though not one I frequently conduct, is the Trash the Dress session. This involves deliberately showcasing an old wedding dress after a breakup or divorce. We take the dress out once more — not for a ceremony, but for you. Locations might include the Amper, the woods near Geiselbullach, or Olchinger See, showcasing the dress in all its glory.

This concept represents liberation through imagery. The old symbol is redefined — shifting from a commitment to another to a commitment to oneself. Importantly, this is not a rage shoot or an anti-ex portrayal. We do not destroy the dress out of frustration; rather, we create strong images born from clarity.

Those interested should ideally be at least 3 to 6 months post-breakup. Before this time, the emotional clarity may not be sufficient. We discuss extensively in the pre-meeting to determine if the moment is right.

Couple Boudoir — Intimacy for Two

Boudoir doesn’t have to be a solo endeavor. Couples in stable relationships — whether married or not, for five years or twenty — sometimes come together to capture moments that are hard to photograph in everyday life: intimacy without staging. Familiar hands, genuine glances.

The setup usually takes place at home, within your own bedroom, using your own bedding and routines. I aim to be as unobtrusive as possible — offering quiet directions and observing the natural interactions between you. The resulting images are private, often in black and white, and typically just for the two of you.
