Gemini Enhances Google Meet with Note-Taking for In-Person Meetings

Google has expanded the capabilities of its AI assistant, Gemini, to include note-taking for in-person meetings, a feature that was previously limited to video calls. This development was announced in a recent blog post on Google Workspace, marking a significant enhancement for users of Google Meet.

With this new feature, teams can now rely on Gemini to capture discussions during in-person meetings, allowing participants to focus entirely on the conversation without the distraction of taking notes by hand or typing on a laptop. The goal is to establish Google Meet as a central hub for all meeting types.

How the Note-Taking Feature Works

During a meeting, a team member can activate Google Meet via their laptop or smartphone. A new button labeled "Take Notes" will appear in the interface. By clicking this button, Gemini will record everything spoken in the conference room.

After the meeting concludes, Gemini provides a structured summary of the discussion, along with a list of tasks derived from the meeting content. Additionally, a complete transcript of the meeting is made available. All these documents are compiled into a Google Doc and stored in Google Drive, with users receiving a link via email.

Availability and User Access

As of now, not all Google Meet users have access to the new Gemini feature. Android smartphone users have enjoyed this capability since August 11. The rollout for web applications began on August 14. However, those using iOS devices will need to wait until August 31 for the note-taking feature to be available.

Google primarily targets business customers with this feature, making it accessible to subscribers of the Workspace Business Standard and Pro plans, as well as the Enterprise Standard and Plus packages for larger organizations. Private users must subscribe to either Google AI Pro or Ultra to utilize the note-taking functionality.
