Lego Considers iMac G3 Set: A Nostalgic Tribute for Apple Fans

A new fan project has reached an exciting milestone as Lego explores the possibility of producing a set inspired by the iconic iMac G3. This potential release is particularly appealing to Apple enthusiasts eager for a nostalgic piece of tech history.

Lego is known for its innovative sets, many of which originate from fan suggestions. When these proposals gather 10,000 votes from the community, they undergo a feasibility assessment by the company. Previous successful sets include replicas of a Polaroid camera, the Sesame Street scene, and a pirate ship from the classic film The Goonies. Now, a new contender is in the spotlight, capturing the interest of tech fans.

A Nostalgic Lego Model

The fan designer known as "terauma" submitted a proposal to Lego in May 2024, focusing on the iMac G3, which debuted in 1998. This computer, notable for its all-in-one design, was conceived by design icon Jony Ive and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Many Apple users also remember the original iMac G3 mouse, which resembled a hockey puck and featured a single button.

The proposed Lego set consists of 700 pieces, incorporating many transparent elements that showcase the internal components, mirroring the design of its real-world counterpart. Within this Lego version, builders can expect to see pieces representing the motherboard and various cable connections. Additionally, the set includes a keyboard and the distinct iMac mouse, enhancing its nostalgic appeal.

Lego has recently narrowed down its project selections and shared updates in a blog post, revealing fan designs that have been approved for production. Among these is a recreation of the Jumanji game board from the well-known film. However, Lego also highlighted projects that are still under consideration, placing them on a so-called "parking lot."

Currently, there are just six projects in this waiting area, including the iMac G3 build. Lego commits to making decisions on such projects during quarterly review periods. The next review cycle pertains to the third quarter of 2026, which means that by mid-2027, the fate of the iMac G3 Lego set will be determined—either approved for production or ultimately rejected.
