Could Lego Bring the Iconic iMac G3 to Life?
Lego is considering a fan proposal for a set based on the iconic iMac G3, designed by Jony Ive and Steve Jobs. The project is currently in review and could be available by 2027.

A recent fan project has made significant strides towards becoming a reality, as Lego now closely examines the feasibility of producing a set based on the beloved iMac G3. This potential set has generated excitement among Apple enthusiasts.

Lego has a history of releasing unique building sets that often originate from fan suggestions. When a proposal garners 10,000 community votes, it is evaluated for its practicality. Previous successful sets include versions of a Polaroid camera, the Sesame Street set, and a pirate ship from the classic film The Goonies. Now, a new contender has emerged that is particularly appealing to tech fans.
A Nostalgic Tribute to Apple
In May 2024, fan designer "terauma" submitted a proposal for a Lego model of the iMac G3, which debuted in 1998. This computer, designed by the legendary Jony Ive along with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, is remembered for its all-in-one design and the distinctive hockey puck-shaped mouse that featured a single button.
The proposed Lego model consists of 700 pieces and mirrors the original's design with many transparent components, allowing a view of its internal elements. The set is expected to include pieces that represent the motherboard and various cable connections, along with a keyboard and the iconic iMac mouse.
After some time, the project has now been shortlisted by Lego. In a recent blog post, the company showcased fan designs that have received approval for production, including a replica of the Jumanji game board from the film. However, the iMac model is currently on what Lego refers to as the "parking lot"—a holding area for projects that require additional time for a decision.
At present, only six projects are in this waiting area, with the iMac G3 model being one of them. Lego commits to making decisions on such projects during quarterly review periods. As the current assessment pertains to the third quarter of 2026, the fate of the iMac G3 Lego set will be determined by mid-2027 at the latest, either moving forward into production or being ultimately declined.
