Suddenly, it's here: the Adobe Acrobat Reader for Android Auto. Without any announcement, the PDF app in the car raises questions: What can you do with it in the car? The answer lies in a new audio feature.
Adobe Acrobat in Android Auto: Thanks to This Feature, It Makes Sense
With the latest update (v26.5.0.45958) of Adobe Acrobat, an app for Android Auto is now available. According to 9to5Google, users are notified about the new app in their vehicles, and it can also be found in the app directory.
The question remains: What does this bring? After all, documents are hardly readable (safely while driving); during breaks, for example while charging, a smartphone or even a tablet is available and is more convenient to use.
The twist lies in a special “Read Aloud” feature within the Android Auto app. Adobe has integrated a media player specifically for this new application area that transcribes the contents of a PDF and plays it back audibly.
This way, content can actually be consumed casually and completely safely while driving. Possible use cases include work documents, study materials, or even e-books in PDF format.
Productivity Boost Without Announcement
While 9to5Google sees this as another step by Google towards greater productivity with Android Auto, the German Google Watch Blog speculates that this innovation could lay the groundwork for “Gemini to also gain PDF access in Android Auto and provide a quick summary.”
Notably, Adobe did not announce the arrival of the Acrobat Reader on Android Auto. In the days following the release of the update on June 5, reports simply emerged on Reddit that the app was suddenly available in vehicles. Discussions about the utility of the new app are also taking place there. Ultimately, this question must be answered by each driver for themselves.
