A small redesign is coming to Whatsapp soon. With a change in the chats, Meta aims to make the messenger clearer and easier to use. Why some Whatsapp users had to wait particularly long for this change.

Meta is constantly working to improve Whatsapp for users. Recently, six new Whatsapp features were announced and released in a major update. However, work on the messenger continues behind the scenes. Early testers are already getting a glimpse of an upcoming design change in Whatsapp that has been long awaited.

Whatsapp: New Chat Menu for Android

According to WABetaInfo, the new feature is currently being rolled out to a number of Android users who are part of the Whatsapp beta program. The redesign changes the chat menu in each individual conversation. The menu appears whenever you long-press a message. Currently, several options appear at the top of the conversation on Android.

These include shortcuts to forward Whatsapp messages, reply directly, or favorite them. After the upcoming update, the menu bar at the top of the screen will disappear. Instead, a new popup menu will appear directly next to the message, summarizing all important functions. This means you can tap directly on the desired function next to the message and no longer need to reach for the top bar on your smartphone.

In the menu, you will find options like "Reply," "Forward," "Copy," "Paste," "Delete" (if it's one of your messages or if you are an admin), as well as "Info" and "Pin." Additionally, there is a "More" menu that opens a second layer of Whatsapp functions. There you will find features like "Favorite," "Translate," and "Verify Security Code" to check end-to-end encryption.

For iPhone users, this menu is not new. On iOS, the context menu has been displayed this way for quite some time. And Android users might find the menu somewhat familiar as well. Meta had announced the Whatsapp update back in 2023 but had not implemented it until now. It is likely just a matter of time before the update reaches all Android users. Once the beta tests are successfully completed, the Whatsapp redesign should gradually roll out in the release version.

Do you still remember these programs?
