The Snapchat company Snap has introduced its first AR glasses, Specs, at the Augmented World Expo 2026. Instead of targeting developers, Snap is primarily focusing on consumers. The glasses are expected to hit the market in 2026.

In June 2025, Snap announced Specs, an AI-powered AR glasses model that, unlike its predecessor Spectacles 5, is explicitly aimed at consumers. Now, a year later, the company behind Snapchat has unveiled Specs at the Augmented World Expo 2026.
Snap: Specs Cost Nearly $2,000
According to Snap, the AR glasses will cost $2,195 and are set to be released this fall. Buyers will receive a $200 refund after delivery. Initially, the launch is planned for the USA, UK, and France.
With a price tag of around $2,000, Specs are over 15 times more expensive than the original Spectacles that Snap launched in 2016, which were simply glasses equipped with a camera. The cost of those was $130.
Snap CEO Sees Specs as a Computer Replacement
The Specs are designed not only to take photos but also to become a sort of smartphone replacement 20 years after the launch of the iPhone, as Snap CEO Evan Spiegel stated to CNBC. "Specs are a way to use computer functions in shared experiences in the real world," Spiegel added. Users can look "through transparent lenses instead of at an opaque screen."
The new Specs AR glasses, equipped with AI features, are smaller and have a larger display than previous Spectacles. There is a 47-millimeter model weighing 132 grams, and a 52-millimeter model weighing 136 grams. The battery life is expected to last up to four hours.
AR Glasses: Work and Watch Movies
The display offers a 51-degree field of view and 16 million colors, and is said to feel like a 24-inch monitor when working. When watching movies, the glasses are expected to provide an experience equivalent to a 115-inch home theater screen at about three meters away.
For Spiegel, Specs are computers in the form of glasses. Developers will be able to create AI agents based on Claude Code, OpenAI's Codex, or Cursor. Special tools for parents will allow them to restrict certain functions when young people are wearing Specs.
